 Having a spill over course is something every student dread and do not wish to be involved in such situation. But what do you do if you happen to find yourself – or a friend in that type of situation?

In case you do not know the meaning of Spill over, Spill over can be refer to as the failure of a course or courses in the University. Hence, a Spillover student is one who still has outstanding course(s) – either by failing the course or by dropping it. 

       The Failure of a course which leads to an outstanding course come as a result of the student scoring lesser than the pass mark.

  (N.B: pass mark is calculated using both your C.A Test and the Examination)

1. Do not Panic

While you might want to start worrying about the damages the Spilled over course would cause to your G.P.A, your mental balance and your academic, it is recommended you take it easy on yourself.

 

2. Can something be done about it?  

The next step is to really ask yourself if there’s something that can be done about the Spilled over course. In some cases, it could be a technical mistake on the University part which can be rectify if followed with due process.

3. If Yes, Go do it

If something can be done to rectify the mistake (let’s say it is a technical mistake from the University), then you shouldn’t delay to do something about it – by visiting the right authorities for amendment.

4. If No, accept reality

If you have truly confirmed that there is nothing that can be done about it, then you should start accepting the reality. The earlier you accept reality, the better it is for you.

5. Find out what make you fail it

There are several reasons that could make you fail a course – ranging from being a subject you really did not like, to not getting the necessary reading manuals, and the likes. Find out what made you fail it and write the list somewhere

6. Work on your weakness

This could be not being able to understand the topic, or perhaps it’s a one of those course you really did not like doing.

  Once you spot your weakness on the course, work on it and use it to your advantage so you could get over it.

7. Do not be timid – even in classes with Junior colleagues

You might want to feel intimidated when taking the course alongside junior colleagues but you shouldn’t. Failing a course doesn’t make you a failure but staying down does.
